NIHR ARC NWL invites you to join our workshop designed for students, research scholars and early career academics who want to start, improve or enhance their academic writing skills.
The workshop is spread over three days with hands-on practice for participants, and presentations will be interwoven with discussion, practical activities, reflection time and protected writing time.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of these workshops, you should be able to:
Feel confident about communicating your research to others
Improve your English writing skills - style, coherence and flow
Identify support available from libraries and information on open access publication
Work on your own manuscript and get peer feedback throughout the workshop
Prepare your manuscript for submission and responding to peer-review from a journal or supervisor
Eligiblity
You should:
Have a writing topic either for a conference, your thesis (or a chapter), dissertation, or journal that you are planning to submit within the next 3-4 months.
Be prepared to work on drafts of your writing during the workshop
Be prepared to give and receive comments from your peers to your written work during the workshop
Course Structure
This workshop will be delivered across 3 days over 3-4 weeks. This course is designed to be as interactive as possible and will be delivered in a virtual format. The workshops are designed to be practical and will focus on writing that each participant is currently doing. Each workshop day will include an element of didactic teaching and opportunities to write current work, to receive and to give feedback.
At the end of these workshops, we hope that participants will have been able to complete or to improve a piece of writing that is important to them.
Course Delivery
This course will be delivered online using MS Teams/Zoom. You will need to have a good internet connection; a computer/ tablet/pad/smart phone with microphone and camera; We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts. There will be a maximum number of 20 delegates for the workshop and you should be committed to attending all three days of the workshop.
