Meet the Academic Writing Course Leads

Dr Fiona Moss

Theme Lead, Collaborative Learning and Capacity Building Theme, NIHR ARC NWL

Fiona is the Theme lead for the collaborative learning and capacity building theme and until recently, was the Dean at the Royal Society of Medicine. She was a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Central Middlesex Hospital, Director of Clinical Studies for Imperial College London and Consultant in quality improvement for North West Thames Health Authority. Her postgraduate education work included developing "one year in one place" rotations for junior doctors, setting up London's Specialty Schools and devising the first Darzi Fellowship Programme. She was the founder editor of the BMJ Journal Quality and Safety and until recently was the Editor in Chief of the Postgraduate Medical Journal. From 2012-2013 Fiona was Director of Medical and Dental Education Commissioning for London. Fiona was awarded a CBE for services to Medicine in 2006.

Philip Barlow

NHS Support librarian, Imperial College London

Phillip is the NHS Support Librarian for the Chelsea & Westminster campus. He undertakes development of the library's collection for NHS users, as well as being available to provide training on both a 1-2-1 and group basis in various areas, including how to find journal articles, books, e-books, etc., and using resources such as the library catalogue and medical databases. Phillip started working at Imperial college London in 2001, initially at the Charing Cross campus library, before moving to Chelsea & Westminster in 2008.

Sandra Jayacodi

Chair, NIHR Imperial BRC Public advisor panel

Sandra is the Chair of the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre Public Advisory Panel. Sandra holds a portfolio of profiles as service user advisor/representative, co-applicant, and research assistant for various studies and improvement projects at Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust and Aberdeen University. Sandra was an NIHR CLAHRC NWL Improvement Leader Fellow and is passionate about translating research studies to provide safer and better health care. She also presents and teaches locally and internationally on public involvement. Sandra is keen to see true representation of age, gender, ethnicity and seldom heard communities, including those who are in full time employment or education, in public involvement activities.

Dr Rowan Myron

Education Lead, Collaborative Learning and Capacity Building Theme, NIHR ARC NWL

Rowan is the Education Lead within the Collaborative Learning and Capacity Building Theme, NIHR ARC NWL. She leads the prestigious Improvement Leader Fellowship, a year-long programme that builds capacity in improvement science and supports individuals to implement change in their workplace. Rowan is also Associate Professor at the University of West London (UWL). She is a trained psychologist, completing her PhD in child development at Goldsmiths College, London.

Rowan developed and teaches on the MSc Improvement Science and Professional Doctorate courses at UWL.

Robyn Price

Bibliometrics and Indicators Manager, Imperial College London

Robyn is responsible for bibliometric analysis and education at Imperial. She has established a bibliometric service to deliver responsible metrics support to staff and students. She is also interested in equity in scholarly communications and research, alternative metrics, grey literature and open access. Previously, Robyn worked in the editorial teams of open access and subscription journals.

Vimal Sriram

Deputy Theme Lead, Collaborative Learning and Capacity Building Theme, NIHR ARC NWL

Vimal is the deputy theme lead for the collaborative learning and capacity building theme, NIHR ARC NWL. His work focuses on building capacity and capability of patients, clinical, non-clinical and academic staff in translating evidence into practice for patient care and population health. He is the PI of the research within this theme. Vimal is a registered Occupational Therapist, a fitness to practice panel member for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a National Institute for health and Care Excellence (NICE) Fellow from April 2015.

Vimal is also a DPhil student (part-time) in Population Health, University of Oxford with a research focus on Carers Experience of Assistive Technology use in Dementia using a mixed methods approach.

Dr Tom Woodcock

Deputy Theme Lead, Information Intelligence Theme, NIHR ARC NWL

Tom has a PhD in mathematics and is currently the Deputy Theme Lead for the Information Intelligence Theme, NIHR ARC NWL and a Health Foundation Improvement Science Fellow. Tom has first-hand experience of working on around 70 multidisciplinary healthcare research and improvement projects at NIHR CLAHRC NWL. His research interests are in quantitative aspects of evaluation of complex interventions, and in how best to foster good measurement in improvement work. Tom uses statistical and data science methods to capture learning from large datasets, to inform improvement in health and care services. Tom is also associate editor for BMJ Quality and Safety.
