Filomena Liccardo

Senior Clinical Fellow in Colorectal and General Surgery at West Middlesex University Hospital

Filomena has completed her surgical training in Italy, but she has worked in UK since 2018 and she is specialising in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

During her career she has developed a keen interest for Quality Improvement and variability of patients experience of care.

Furthermore, she is eager to deepen her understanding of the barriers to access to health care and to promote equality and inclusion in the NHS.

During this fellowship, she hopes she will develop a combination of academic and practical knowledge of the main quality improvements approaches and methods and of the structure of the healthcare system, along with furthering her skills in leadership and management.

She also looks forward to networking with people with her same passion for these topics.

Her project will aim to identify the main risk factors for emergency diagnosis of colorectal cancer and for reduced access to elective pathways.

The project will prioritise patients’ involvement by setting up focus groups of people who have gone through the same experience.
