Grazia Antonacci has been awarded the Imperial College London  President's Award for Excellence in Education as an Outstanding Assistant Supervisor.

"The President's Award for Excellence in Education is a tremendous honour and a significant milestone in my career. It is a recognition of the collaborative efforts and unwavering support from my colleagues at NIHR ARC Northwest London and the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, as well as the inspiring students I have had the privilege to mentor. This award reaffirms my commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment. Moving forward, I aim to continue contributing to health service research, focusing on the adoption, implementation, scale-up, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions and technologies in practice."

The President's Awards for Excellence in Education are annual awards to recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions in teaching, research supervision and supporting the student experience.

As an Assistant Supervisor, Grazia prioritises approachability and supportiveness in her interactions with PhD students. She strives to foster an environment where students feel comfortable seeking guidance and sharing concerns. With an open-door policy, she encourages students to discuss their research progress, academic challenges, or personal matters affecting their work. Actively listening to her students' ideas and concerns and providing constructive feedback and tailored guidance are paramount to creating that comfort. For instance, when a student struggled with a specific research methodology, she offered additional resources and scheduled extra meetings to provide hands-on support until the student gained confidence.

Her commitment to approachability extends beyond formal meetings. She makes herself available for guidance and support in various settings, whether in the hallway, through email, or on virtual platforms. This, combined with her open and engaging attitude, helps create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued. Grazia actively seeks opportunities to mentor and empower students, recognising their unique strengths and talents. She encourages them to take initiative in their research, providing the necessary resources and support for their success.

Grazia's commitment to approachability, inclusivity, and effective feedback is crucial in guiding students towards academic excellence and professional development. These very qualities have earned her the distinguished recognition of the President's Award for Excellence in Education.
