Lee Bolton

Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist

Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals

Lee is a speech and language therapist with over 15 years’ experience working with people with a wide range of medical conditions both in the NHS and private sector overseas. He specialises in treating ‘aerodigestive dysfunction’ – problems in the throat affecting breathing, speaking, coughing and swallowing.

Lee has a keen interest in clinical research and has previously completed a pre-doctoral research fellowship exploring the feasibility of a methodology for assessing swallowing problems in people with chronic lung disease.

As a Research Champion and Clinical Advisor to the RCSLT, he has contributed to numerous professional and national policies and is a published author and peer reviewer for several international journals.

Lee has a natural affinity for the NIHR ARC principles of driving high-quality care through the pragmatic translation and implementation of evidence-based interventions into routine clinical practice. His Improvement Leader Fellowship project seeks to improve the early identification and management of laryngeal (voicebox) injury after thoracic surgery. He is looking forward to continuing his learning as an NIHR ARC NWL Improvement Leader Fellow and is excited about applying practical improvements in his local setting as well as spreading the changes elsewhere.
