The North West London Health Equity Awards celebrate outstanding individuals dedicated to reducing health inequalities and empowering communities. The NW London ICS awards recognise efforts to break down barriers, improve understanding of inequities, and build partnerships that create lasting change.

Ganesh Sathyamoorthy, Ethnicity and Health Unit Deputy Director, was honoured for his leadership in bridging gaps in health research diversity through the ICS REN NWL Community Research Champions (CRC) programme. Ganesh has fostered trust and addressed fears around healthcare and research, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds to empower NWL’s communities. His collaborative approach includes facilitating key partnerships, such as the UK’s first nationwide survey of sickle cell disease patient experiences, which amplified the voices of marginalised groups.

Patricia Wharton, known as Blaze, was recognised for her impactful work, including her part in the CRC programme in Brent. A radio presenter and ambassador for community cancer care, Patricia collaborated with CVS Brent to develop health and wellbeing events focusing on cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and emotional wellbeing. Her efforts in building social capital have empowered individuals and small businesses to promote wellbeing services across Brent.

"I was overwhelmed to receive an award from the NHS Integrated Care System. With 64 nominees, I was proud to be one of 6 winners for my fight to reduce health inequalities. However, I didn't do this alone.  So I share my award with you. Errol McKellar, with whom my journey started.  My video with Daddy Ernie and the Man Van continues to be echoed in the Health Service as a great outcome. Thank you, Ernie. Big Shouts also go out to Mane Culture Barber Shop. To DJ Piper, Venus Promotions, Carmen Cameron. Millian Market. My research Champions Kristine Wellington.  Val Stewart, Omowale Quow, Sandra Holder, Anita Wharton. To all the volunteers.  To all who have shared their story.  May you all be blessed. To you, the community, and everyone who showed up at the health roadshow shows, to Chalkhill Community Radio Station for our amazing platform. Big E, my Co-host. Roots FM. To Cynthia Holder, my virtual assistant. Brent Public Health, I am without words. I simply can not name everyone, so if you played a role. It's our award." - Patricia Wharton.

Ganesh and Patricia exemplify the power of collaboration and dedication in advancing health equity.
